Making a Meaningful Difference
How often does one have the opportunity to make an immensely impactful difference in another person’s life? At Friends, Inc. it happens daily and we always consider it the highest privilege.
Recently we were honored to take a seriously ill wheelchair-bound World War II veteran to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center so that he, surrounded by his loving family, could personally view his photograph hanging on the wall there. It was our great pleasure to provide transportation to one of our disabled paraplegic patients to his beloved family member’s funeral service and the family meal afterwards, without which he would not have been able to attend.
A child who has suffered significantly needed someone to provide caring companionship and safe transportation to her most important counseling appointments. We cared enough to be there for her, and oh, what a privilege it was.
We have been given the rare opportunity to make certain critically ill patients, who previously have had to decline crucial medical treatment because they had no transportation, are now able to get to those significant appointments.
To provide groceries to those who battle hunger, medical supplies to those who cannot afford them, and friendly visits to those who day after day struggle with extreme loneliness is indeed, quite a privilege.
It has been said that no one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another. Might you be that someone and join hands with us to become a Friends, Inc. volunteer? I can assure you that your caring heart will truly make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need; and oh, what an honor and privilege it will be.
